Dow Surges Past 12000, Fueled by Earnings and Profits

The DJIA surged past the 12,000 mark, the first time since June 2008,with a gain of 148 points.

The S&P 500 also hit a milestone by adding 21 points to 1308, finishing above 1300 for the first time since Aug. 28, 2008.

This is good news for the first day of February, and is likely to be setting the tone for the rest of the month.
